Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to slam Wayne Hennessey after watching Derby’s opening goal in the FA Cup third round tie on Sunday afternoon.
The Rams took a first-half lead after former Palace striker Chris Martin prodded home Jayden Bogle’s whipped delivery, which bounced along the Selhurst Park turf twice before finding a way past the Wales international.
It did seem as if the former Wolves glovesman took an age to get down to try and stop the goal-bound effort, with his lack of agility not helped by his towering 6 foot 6 frame – the 32-year-old probably should’ve done better, in truth.
Martin’s strike was pivotal as it ended up being the only goal of the game and ultimately the difference between the two sides, but it wasn’t just the defeat that presumably left the south Londoners hurting.
Club captain Luka Milivojevic was also handed a straight red card after an incident involving himself and Tom Huddlestone, which means that he now receives a three-match ban – it really wasn’t an afternoon to remember for Hodgson, as Max Meyer also went off injured during the first-half.
Nevertheless, let’s take a look at how the Palace fans on Twitter reacted to the £2.7m-rated man’s involvement – or lack of involvement – in Derby’s first goal…
These three supporters picked up on the fact that Hennessey took forever to get down to Martin’s shot.
One fan named Phil said that the Welsh keeper couldn’t even anticipate the only place that the ball was ever going to go, while another replied to that tweet saying that the Palace No.13 is not a Premier League standard player.
Another fan said that Hennessey “should’ve been subbed off on the spot” after conceding to Martin – perhaps a little harsh, although as aforesaid, the Palace man could’ve done better.
Elsewhere, this supporter sarcastically said that Hennessey was “deploying the cat like reflexes” again – a humorous response given the fact it looked like he was moving in slow motion.
It’s the dawn of a new decade in the Premier League, but how much do you know about the last 10 years?
Lastly, Louie aimed a dig at Hennessey by saying that Vicente Guaita would’ve saved Martin’s shot – ouch.
