According to the Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion are one of several clubs monitoring the progress of Coventry City left-back Sam McCallum, although they face stiff competition from the Premier League.
What’s the word?
The report claims that top-flight front runners Liverpool have entered the race to clinch the 19-year-old starlet with Aston Villa and Leicester City also being named.
McCallum has featured 18 times for the Sky Blues in all competitions this season, scoring and assisting one apiece, per Transfermarkt.
He is a graduate of Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy and was picked up by the League One outfit from non-league Herne Bay in 2018.
The Coventry prospect has also shown versatile attributes having played at right-back and further forward in a wing-back role this campaign.
Much-needed addition
Albion’s left-back position could soon become a bit of a problematic area for Slaven Bilic.
He’s just lost Kieran Gibbs, his first-choice option, out to injury once again. He faces yet another lengthy spell on the sidelines after featuring in only eight of their 22 league matches.
His backup Conor Townsend is starting to prove that he isn’t up to the standard of the division, at least in the eyes of some supporters, and maybe now even his manager after he was hauled off against Birmingham City last weekend.
The Baggies came from behind to clinch all three points in the west Midlands derby after he was withdrawn.

And then there is Nathan Ferguson, who can fill in on the left despite being the Croatian’s primary right-back. His future at the Hawthorns is currently up in the air as the club could well sell him next month if he doesn’t sign on the dotted line.
This leaves West Brom in a spot of bother at left-back with options seemingly falling by the game. McCallum would be the perfect addition – young, attacking and has links to the club’s new academy chiefs.
Although, they now face fierce competition from teams in the division above, including the Champions League winners.
