Tottenham Hotspur tabled a contract offer worth over £200,000-per-week to Christian Eriksen, per The London Evening Standard.
What’s the word?
The Denmark international has reportedly told the club that he intends to leave when his current deal expires at the end of the season and the Standard reports that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will attempt to sell him in January. He is willing to accept less than £40m.
However, there is also the detail that Spurs actually offered him a new deal that would have made him one of the club’s highest-paid players.
Per Spotrac, only Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele earn £200,000-per-week in north London, with the next highest-earner, Son Heung-Min, earning £140,000-per-week.

Not a mercenary
Whatever one may think of Eriksen’s pursuit of a move, he is not doing it for the money.
Sources within the club have suggested to Football FanCast previously that he is looking for a change of culture and has a desire to play abroad.
Of course, that could see him move to an elite club such as Real Madrid or Inter Milan and with that would likely come an elite pay packet, but that is secondary to his wishes.
The Dane is out to further his career and also his horizons and that, really, should be applauded.
If he were in it for the money, he would have put pen to paper.
While his commitment and performances can be questioned – he has scored just two goals and provided a mere two assists this season – he cannot be accused of chasing the money.
Meanwhile, Spurs fans have reacted to another impressive performance from a youngster.
